No one loves dogs as much as we do at the Eiko’s Beach House! That’s why we are always on the lookout for fun places to take our four legged friends! One of our favorite spots is the Fort De Soto dog beach, only a half hour drive from the Eiko’s Beach House. Here is everything you need to know!

Location

Situated on the south side of Tampa as well as St Petersburg, this park covers more than 1100 acres of the untouched shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico, and is covered with mangroves, hardwood forests, and wetlands. This place is historically known for clear waters and this has been a big reason for its many tourists to visit every year.

If you wish to drive down to Fort De Soto dog beach, you will have to drive past Tierra Verde. Cross a toll where you would need to pay 5 dollars in cash to make your way in the park. Your furry friends are always welcomed in this beach park along with you, however, leashes are a must to move around anywhere. The only place you can unleash them is at the dog beach as well as the covered dog park. Parking Options

There are ample options to park, the roadway to this island beach is through the Pinellas Bay way. The entry to the park is $5, and the receipt you get is your valid parking lot ticket. You need to display it, preferably on the dash.

If you look at the size of the park of Fort De Soto dog park, its quite clear that the park is popular during summers. However, if you happen to be there sometime in the Fall, you’ll notice that the place is far emptier.

Fees / Costs

Parking options are available at the beach park for 5 dollars for vehicles without a trailer. The payment booths are available at the site, almost a mile into the park called the welcome station. You will need to cross the boat ramps as well as the campground entrances.

If you have a valid disability permit to park, will not be required to pay for the parking (neither the daily fees nor the annual).

No fees are charged for on foot visitors or cyclists.

You can opt for an annual pass for $75 and if you are over 65 years of age you can get the pass for $55

Although the park is not be open to the public till 7 in the morning, there is an open lane that allows you to drive right in the park, so if you want to take those sunrise pictures you can do that. Just remember to pay at the booth on your way back, the rules at the park is very strict and every car is accounted for.

Bella Brava: they serve great Italian food, so if you love pasta then this can be a good option for you. You also get the option to choose vegetarian or go completely vegan, and they also serve gluten-free options.

Buona Ristorante: It is a comfortable family-owned Italian restaurant. The food is homemade and great value for the money, and the service at this restaurant is really good. They also specialize in vegetarian and vegan food. Ideal for lunch and dinner. You can also get free access to the wifi here.

Palm Court: This grill offers you local as well as Mediterranean food options, they also have vegan and vegetarian food. This is ideal for family and friends. From pasta to seafood the menu has plenty of options for everyone.

Campground Store: If you plan to spend the night camping and have forgotten some camping essentials this the go-to store.

Important Things to Remember

We recommend you carry plenty of water and even bring a cooler with you possible. Next carry towels, a bowl to fill with water to drink, and preferably snacks, also don’t forget to carry some toys. 

Poop bags are a must, though you can get them at the park, it is always good to keep some extra bags handy.

It may be a good idea to bring a large party umbrella or a tent. Maybe even some beach chairs if you’d like that little back support, otherwise beach towels will do just fine. A tip here, remember your four legged friend is going to get down and dirty, so we strongly suggest you carry a brush and maybe even some shampoo to wash them at the washing station available at the exit.

1. What is the depth of the lagoon area?

It depends on the type of tide, the kids can walk on the sand bar, check for the tide status, it is best you do it during low tide.

2. Can you get there with RV’s?

You will need to check with the park authorities but for a regular ticket to the parking lot, you can’t bring any RV’s.

3. Is it open during Christmas?

Yes it is open throughout the year.

4. Is there a bug issue if camping?

There aren’t huge bug issues due to the breeze, however, to be on a safer side, do carry some bug repellent.

5. What are the options for an overnight stay?

There are condos available to rent on the way to the park, you may also choose to camp at the part by paying a little extra, you need to check with the park authorities. You can also check availability at the Eiko’s Beach House.
