While it is hard to pull parents and families away from the allure of the Gulf of Mexico while staying at Eiko’s Beach House in Treasure Island, Florida, we occasionally are asked where is the best place to play golf? Not miniature golf but the real thing. As Eiko and I are not golfers we had to rely on some of our guests and neighbours for their input. Now here it is; the three best golf courses nearest to Treasure Island.
Pasadena Yacht and Country Club
By far the Pasadena Yacht and Country Club tops the list of private Golf courses located in nearby Gulfport, Florida, roughly a 10 minute drive from Treasure Island. Those in the know tell us that the ownership has changed recently and the facilities have received a $1million refurbishment.
The facilities are well kept and the staff on the course, yacht slips, restaurant, etc. are pleasant and knowledgeable. Our neighbours mentioned that the greens are well manicured and are fast so they can easily be underestimated. The holes have different levels of difficulty which keeps the course interesting.
For the non-golfers or multi-talented sports enthusiasts, boat slips, a terrific swimming pool and a first rate restaurant make this the golf course of choice in South Pinellas County. This is rare praise from our occasionally grumpy neighbour!
The Vinoy Golf Club
The Vinoy Golf Club in Downtown St. Petersburg associated with the Vinoy Hotel. The 18 hole championship course was designed by Ron Garl and this course dates back to 1932.
Most golfers who play here claim the course is immaculate, though there are some rumors the course is a little short and green fees are not inexpensive. There is a Moorish style country club and restaurant and all reports confirm the food at the club is excellent.
Other than the fees, most report that this is a fun and idyllic club to play. The Vinoy is roughly a 20 minute drive from Eiko’s Beach House in Treasure Island and just visiting the facilities and walking around the Vinoy and Downtown St. Petersburg is strongly recommended.
Seminole Lake Country Club
The closest golf venue is the Seminole Lake Country Club which is just Northeast of Treasure Island and a 10 to 15 minute drive from the Eiko’s Beach House.
Our guests have lauded this club as having great greens, a challenging course and a friendly welcome to visitors to the area. They also mentioned that there is enough water and trees to make it interesting but not so much to put off all but the best players. Sandwich lunches are ample and tasty which are included in the days membership. All in all great value for money and very close to Eiko’s Beach House.
After putting around the golf course it is time to relax at your own 19th hole with a cool refreshing drink , viewing the azure Gulf of Mexico while contemplating the next open item on your Eiko’s Beach House “to do” list . Swimming, boating, fishing and just plain relaxing need to be conquered while staying at Eiko’s Beach House, Treasure Island.
